MINISTRY OF ENERGY & MINERAL DEVELOPMENT (UETCL) HEADED BY HON. DR. RUTH NANKABIRWA SSENTAMU DELIVERS TWO TRANSFORMERS TO ARUA SUB-STATION.
Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development through UETCL has delivered two (2) transformers to Muni sub-station construction site in a bid to expedite electrical works at the site. The transformers aboard two trailers arrived at the site yesterday, 15/03/2022. This was witnessed today, Wednesday, 16th February, 2022 by the Deputy Resident City Commissioner, Adomati Dickson while monitoring the construction site. The visibly excited DRCC thanked UETCL and the contractors for the stride so far made three and a half weeks since he last visited the site.
The overall consultant for the project, Eng. Kirambi Aramadhan from New Plan said, "there were 252 gantry foundations concretely erected and two (2) foundations for the installation of the two voltage transformers. Current transformers would also be installed, lighting towers, current breakers and copper installations for earthing had also begun." The consultant estimated the overall civil works to be at about 80% adding that soon they would start block works at the control room since the pillars and the top had already been cast pending roofing.
The site consultant further said, "the general transmission works of especially construction of pylons and wires is at about 50% connecting Karuma-Kole-Gulu-Olwiyo-Nebbi and Arua sub-station as per their last meeting." He further added that swampy areas were handled first but there had been a delay arising from compensation issues generally.
The Health, safety and environment Head at the sub-station, Mr. Sam Otibok explained that there had been a delay in the construction of the emergency guard/security house, water tank used to put off fire because of change in architectural design of entrance to the station. According to him, they were constructing the emergency oil tank in case of oil spills from the transformers. They hoped to finish them soon.
The Deputy Resident City Commissioner commended the contractors for the progress so far made saying, at that speed the works at the sub-station were likely to be completed within the stipulated period. The DRCC called upon the government to engage the contractors working on transmission lines so as to harmonize with the construction of the various sub-stations in order to meet the contract period.
Mr. Adomati lauded President Yoweri Museveni and his Energy and Mineral Development Minister Hon. Dr. Ruth Nankabirwa Ssentamu for their tireless efforts put to ensure West Nile is connected to the National grid. The Deputy RCC also thanked Members of Parliament from West Nile sub-region especially Hon. Atima Lee Jackson 'Buti and Hon. Feta Geofrey who have always spared their busy schedule to make efforts to follow electricity issues.
If the construction of the sub-stations and transmission lines are undertaken at the current pace, West Nile could be connected to the National grid before the end of this year.
