Today we celebrate the power of individuals to make a difference and create positive change in their communities, regardless of their background or circumstances. Nelson Mandela fought against the apartheid system, which separated people based on their skin colour and race in South Africa. Mandela believed in equality and wanted everyone to be treated equally, regardless of race. He spent 27 years in prison for his beliefs but never gave up. When he was finally released, he became South Africa’s first black president and worked to bring people together.
