A group of Chinese hackers carrying out political espionage for Beijing has been found targeting telecommunications companies with a new piece of malware designed to spy on text messages sent or received by highly targeted individuals. Peter Elwelu has urged youth to stretch to the furthest limits in their pursuit for jobs— including thinking of selling cow dung for a living. Speaker Kadaga presiding over the first graduation ceremony of Basoga Nsadhu Vocational Institute in Namutumba District Speaker Rebecca Kadaga, has pledged to mobilise funding and support for vocational institutes in Busoga sub-region. The two leaders met on the sidelines of the first ever summit between the Russia and African States which is being held in Sochi. Members of Parliament (MPs) sitting on the Committee of Natural Resources have expressed shock that government has already embarked on a process to amend the National Environment Act, 2018, with a likely aim to implement a total ban focusing on the manufacturing of polythene bags. The National Environment Act, 2018, was passed by Parliament in November of last year and sought to repeal the National Environment Act Cap.153 and replace it with a law that conforms to existing government policies and other relevant laws. It banned single-use carrier bags below 30 microns. The law obliges manufacturers of polythene bags and plastics to recycle plastic waste and also label the polythene bags. Industries engaged in producing plastics are also required to give an annual report on the amount of plastic they have produced, how much has been collected from the public and how much has been recycled. Students face off with the military Military and regular police have arrested over 20 students of Makerere university who were protesting tuition increment. The university council last year approved a 15 percent cumulative increment for five years. After five years, each student will be required to pay 75 percent more. Led by their Guild Vice President Judith Nalukwago, students on Tuesday morning tried to march to the President’s office to petition President Museveni to scrap the policy. The army and police quickly intercepted them outside the university the gate and dispersed them before arresting the ring leaders. According to Nalukwago, those who increased the tuition have their children studying outside this country. “Some of us are here selling our bodies to get tuition. Mr President, please halt this policy and relieve us from selling our bodies,” she is quoted by media as saying. The students are currently detained at Wandegeya police station pending investigations.
