Italian Watchdog Bans OpenAI’s ChatGPT Over Data Protection Concerns.

#Information_is_Power  .   #we_inform_the_uninformed  . Read more here. The Italian data protection watchdog, Garante per la Protezione dei Dati Personali (aka Garante), has imposed a temporary ban of OpenAI’s ChatGPT service in the country, citing data protection concerns. To that end, it has ordered the company to stop processing users’ data with immediate effect, stating it intends to investigate the company over whether it’s unlawfully processing such data in violation of the E.U. General Data Protection Regulation ( GDPR ) laws. “No information is provided to users and data subjects whose data are collected by Open AI,” the Garante  noted . “More importantly, there appears to be no legal basis underpinning the massive collection and processing of personal data in order to ‘train’ the algorithms on which the platform relies.” ChatGPT, which is estimated to have reached over 100 million monthly active users since its release late last year,  has not ...

CAN YOU SELL YOUR VOTE ?.

Senso has lost four elections since he entered politics. Even his wife did not vote for him when he stood for the LC 1 position in his village in Tumbuktu. From that moment, Senso stopped believing he could convince voters about anything, and he spent the next few years making money. He was told that the votes were for sale. Then he heard that the district MP had died in a road accident. Immediately, Senso returned for the burial and announced that he was running for the MP position. He then decided to target the women because they voted the most in his village and started delivering small gift baskets to the women with money, shoes, clothing and monthly allowance to help them at home. The strategy seemed to work, and he was elected. He has since been boasting that he bought the election. Can his opponent sue him for this?WHAT DOES THE LAW SAY?By law, elections are supposed to be free and fair. This means everyone gets to choose who they want to vote for based on their own opinions an...

New Wi-Fi Protocol Security Flaw Affecting Linux, Android and iOS Devices.

#Information_is_Power  .   A group of academics from Northeastern University and KU Leuven has disclosed a fundamental design flaw in the IEEE 802.11 Wi-Fi protocol standard, impacting a wide range of devices running Linux, FreeBSD, Android, and iOS. Successful exploitation of the shortcoming could be abused to hijack TCP connections or intercept client and web traffic, researchers Domien Schepers, Aanjhan Ranganathan, and Mathy Vanhoef said in a paper published this week. The approach exploits power-save mechanisms in endpoint devices to trick access points into leaking data frames in plaintext, or encrypt them using an all-zero key. “The unprotected nature of the power-save bit in a frame’s header […] also allows an adversary to force queue frames intended for a specific client resulting in its disconnection and trivially executing a denial-of-service attack,” the researchers noted. In other words, the goal is to leak frames from...
