A former health minister in the Democratic Republic of Congo has been jailed for five years for stealing more than $400,000 of funds meant to fight the Ebola Epidemic. Oly Ilunga was arrested last year by the Police for allegedly mismanaging funds allocated for the fight against Ebola. Although Oly Ilunga denied any wrongdoing he resigned as health minister and criticized the World Health Organisation in his resignation letter. Dr Ilunga and his financial advisor were both convicted of forging tens of thousands of dollars worth of receipts from a fake company. The said forged receipts were used to justify purchases of products already paid for by international donors. Both convicts also diverted money meant to pay for the transportation of life-saving items to Ebola hotspots. The two men in their twenties “attempted to tussle with officers,” Rwanda National Police spokesman John Bosco Kabera said by phone Wednesday. Rwanda began a two-week lockdown on March 22, restricting travel between towns and cities and asking people to stay indoors. Its measures are among the most stringent in Africa. This evening, I addressed the country on the situation as far as the Covid-19 pandemic is concerned. The country has registered five more cases, bringing the total to 14 confirmed cases.  Among these new cases is a trader from from Adjumani who frequented the border with South Sudan, a baby in Iganga whose father had recently returned from Kisumu Kenya and two Chinese nationals recently stopped in Zombo on their way to DR Congo.  Minus the new cases, the of the nine earlier recorded, eight are responding well to treatment. Their temperatures have come down. Only one case still has temperature fluctuations but our medical people are closely monitoring.  We expect to get more reports of scattered cases but on the whole, we are happy that we took critical decisions early enough like closing schools and centres of worship. A new module for TrickBot banking Trojan has recently been discovered in the wild that lets attackers leverage compromised systems to launch brute-force attacks against selected Windows systems running a Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) connection exposed to the Internet. The module, dubbed "rdpScanDll," was discovered on January 30 and is said to be still in development, said cybersecurity firm Bitdefender in a report.
