Yes, a church marriage and a customary marriage can both be done. BUT!!!! They cannot both exist at the same time. If you are confused, let us explain.
We have told you before that a polygamous and monogamous marriage cannot exist at the same time for the same couple. This is because the existence of a monogamous marriage automatically renders the other marriage illegal.
So, if you want to have a customary marriage (which is polygamous) and the church marriage (that monogamous one), then you must follow a very strict order when doing it. This is because the law allows you to convert your customary marriage into a church marriage if only have one wife AND you are still only marrying the same (one) person.
The order is simple. Customary first, then go to church. If you, do it any other way, the customary ceremony will simply be a traditional party but not a marriage because a polygamous marriage cannot follow a monogamous one.
