If you get lucky this Valentine’s Day, and your sweetheart proposes or accepts your proposal, then you might be wondering how to decide which marriage will seal your ‘happily ever after’. Well here a few tips.
If you wish to honour your cultural tradition, you can choose to go with a customary marriage, and get married according to the beliefs and the customs of the tribe. However, this type of marriage can be polygamous. (Meaning that your husband could marry another woman).
On the other hand, if you are religious and want to get married with your God as a witness, you can opt for a religious marriage according to your religious beliefs. If you are Christian, then this will be a monogamous marriage (Meaning that your husband cannot legally marry another woman). However, some religious marriages are also polygamous like the Islamic marriages.
If culture and religion are not your ‘thing’, then a civil marriage might be the thing for you. Just visit the district offices or the registrar of marriages either at URSB (if you are from Kampala) and ask to be married. This is called a civil marriage.
