RETURN OF GIFTS: ARE VALENTINES’ DAY GIFTS SUPPOSED TO BE RETURNED IF THE RELATIONSHIP DOES NOT CONTINUE?
Mavo and Namatovu have lived together for 2 years and everyone knew they were in a serious relationship. One day, Mavo took up Namatovu up on her request to help her open a Chicken business. So, on Valentine’s Day, he handed over the Capital for the chicken business to Namatovu who immediately bought the chicken. She has been running this business on a day-to-day basis and even registered it as ‘Namatovu Kuku’.
This year, Namatouvu decided to end the relationship and when Mavo came over to ask to take her out for valentine’s day, she broke up with him. Mavo immediately started looking for a plan B and instantly got back on the ‘love truck’ and started seeing Stella who became the ‘only bean in his soup’ and ‘only star in the night sky’. When Stella started asking for some ka-money to help her start a business, Bernard remembered the chicken shop. He went to the premises and ordered Namatovu out of ‘his’ chicken shop so that Stella would now run it.
On hearing this, Namatovu reported to police and wants Mavo and his new ‘catch’ to stay off her property. Mavo is arguing that the Business belongs to him because he offered the initial capital to start it up however much it was registered in Namatovu’s name.
Let us know what you think, who really owns this business? Do Valentine gifts mean they should be returned when the ‘love’ fades away?"
