If you are ever accused of something and find yourself standing before a magistrate or judge and (God forbid) they say you are guilty of that offence, it does not mean you should keep quiet and await your fate.
The law has something called mitigation where you are given a chance to speak up and tell the court why you may have done what you did and why you should not be given the heaviest possible punishment.
For example, you can tell the court in case it is your first offence, or that you are the provider of your family if that is the case to enable you to get a lighter punishment.
If you keep quiet, the court may think that you accept everything including whatever punishment you will receive.
Speak up! It is your right.
