DID YOU KNOW THAT CHILDREN ARE ALSO ALLOWED TO WORK ?.

By law, there is work considered safe for children to do so that they can either earn money or learn how a particular business or career operates. This is known as ‘light work’. Light work is;

a. Work that is not harmful to a child’s health;

b. not harmful to a child’s development;

c. does not force a child to choose whether or not to attend school;

d. not prejudicial to a child’s participation in vocational training; and

e. not more than fourteen hours per week;

Remember, a child should not;

carry heavy loads,

work with or near dangerous machinery, equipment and tools;

unhealthy environments,

underground or at high heights;

subjected to any form of abuse (physical, psychological or sexual)

or work for long hours.

This means a child should not work in high buildings or underground bars, clubs and places that are even morally harmful to them

Parliament also urged Gov’t to provide additional Shs4Bn to UTB to engage international and national media houses in production of positive media stories for improved destination image, following reports of drop in number of tourists from US, Europe and China visiting Uganda.
