No Shoddy Work; We will be after you & deal with you, Deputy RDC Ham Mizamil, City Mayor Nyakua & Division Mayor Malon Warn Contractor.
During a Tuesday 18-10-2022 ground breaking ceremony held in Ayivu East Constituency, the Arua District Deputy RDC Mr Ezama Ham Mizamil, Ayivu Division mayor Hon Avutia Malon and Arua City Mayor Wadri Sam Nyakua have alerted DOHA Investment Ltd, the Contractor who is been awarded Shs 2,086,720,066 for the construction of Enyau bridge on Eraka - Oluodri road, to be careful over shoddy work, mismanagement of resources as they begin construction work on the bridge.
The 2 billion Shs project in Alivu cell, Aliba ward, Aroi Sub-county in Ayivu East Constituency, Ayivu Division in Arua City is funded under Development Response to Displacement Impacts Project (DRDIP).
The Ayivu Division Mayor Hon Avutia Malon emphasized to the community Members not to expect any compensation for their small meters of land that may be affected by the bridge construction project.
He also urged them not to ask for any bribe from the workers at site and live in harmony with them.
Hon Malon expressed the need for dialogue and transparency, saying, excavating some inches of people's land during this construction project will not be segregatively done on the basis of this other land owner is rich and educated and therefore some bit of the road excavation should be narrowed into poor man's land.
The Division mayor Hon Malon also used this moment to propose to the Contractor (DOHA Investment Ltd) to buy some of the local materials like Sands, Marrams etc, from the residents of the area so that they can benefit from the project.
The Arua City Mayor Wadri Sam Nyakua tasked the residents of the area to utilize the construction of the bridge to eradicate poverty through venturing into farming activities.
He said, if you are poor, you may not be respected in the community!
Even in your own family, children may call you by your real names because you are poor.
But take some instances where a man leaves some money at home in the morning and also comes in the evening with some small food items in the polythene bag (kavera), people in your village starting with your family members will respect 🙏 you!
poverty makes some people become bitter, angry, emotional, envious and with full of grudge, Hon Wadri Sam Nyakua added as the community members bursted into laughter.
"You are ready to succeed here or ready to fail here" the City Mayor Nyakua lamented as he cautioned the contractor against any anomaly in the 2 billion shs project.
The Arua District Deputy RDC Mr Ezama Ham Mizamil who also doubles as a Businessman praised the NRM Government under the able leadership of HIS Excellence Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for enabling the environment, security for such a robust development and service delivery to our people.
Mr Ham enlightened the community Members about the roles which are played in these sectors, saying; lobying is the role of the Politicians, management of projects is what Technocrats undertake and the Role of RDCs are to monitor what these above mentioned people have done, adding that, monitoring is where most of the RDCs in Uganda are loosing their jobs because some of the corrupt people who mismanage government funds, turn to fight them (the RDCs) for monitoring and demanding "value for money 💰", but such will never stop us from fighting corruption.
We shall confront the contractor and bring them to book if the work is shoddy, Mr Ham Mizamil warned.
Do a quality work and we shall always recommend you for more other projects, he said.
The tough sounding Deputy RDC vowed to arrest anyone in the community who will resort to stealing construction materials, a statement which promoted him to ban idlers from loitering at the construction site.
On the issue of buying local contents from the residents of the area, Mr Ham Mizamil advised the residents not to take advantage of the project by hiking prices of their sands, marrams.
As a rejoinder to City Mayor Nyakua's speech, the Deputy RDC pleaded with people to utilize the bridge, road for doing productive agriculture and businesses rather than using it to go and drink alcohol.
Mr Ham Mizamil, in his closing remarks, advised the local people of the area not to become self-proclaimed engineers by quarreling on the workers at site or reporting them unnecessarily over issues of insufficient ratio in mixture of cement and other construction materials.
Where did you get your qualifications to be an Engineer to monitor and quarrel anyhow on the workers at the site ?, kind-hearted Ham Muzamil asked, triggering the community members, the contractor and government officials in to laughter 😁 😃 .
