Nanteza got married to her high school sweetheart Pantelo, only for them to get divorced after 3 years in the marriage. The later met 10 years later and the spark rekindled and they want to officially get married again since they are both single.
WHAT DOES THE LAW SAY.
Marriage is a legal union between two adults (above the age of 18 years). Marriage can be polygamous (one man and many women), under Islam, customary and hindu marriages or monogamous under civil and Christian marriages. If a person is in an existing monogamous marriage (one man and one woman), they cannot marry another person without divorce Any marriage that happened when one person is still married will be considered invalid. However, if a person in under a polygamous marriage, the man can marry another woman if they fulfil what is required of them under that form of marriage.
Divorce is a formal way of ending a marriage. When a marriage is ended, this means both the parties are now single and can legally start another marriage. For clarity, being officially divorced is different from being in the process of divorce. If a person gets married before the divorce has been concluded by court, that marriage will still be invalid. So you cannot claim that you were in the process of getting divorced, we recommend that you wait until court makes a final ruling.
Since Nanteza and Pantelo are both single, they can marry each other again. The law does not stop you from marrying the same person that you divorced earlier.
