A co-parenting agreement simply means an agreement between two people living apart but having had a child or children together. This kind of arrangement makes it easy to both take care of the children and needs to be in the best interest of the child(ren), So a co-parenting agreement particularly needs to have the following:
Where the child will live during different times like school time, holiday time, considering things like where the child goes to school,
Who pays for the different costs of the child, including school fees, medication/ treatment, clothing, academic materials and the like
The agreement should be such that it is flexible to allow for the other party to provide in case one of the parents has financial trouble at some point. This reduces the pressure and can increase the feeling of cooperation.
By the way, you don’t always need a lawyer- the parents can draft the agreement and register it at URSB with the registry of documents.
Note: it’s not always the case that the man pays for these things, the parent who earns more may typically be expected to provide more financially, while the one who eaO rns less may be required to provide more time and physical availability. The best thing to do is create these contracts with the understanding of both parties ‘financial capabilities in mind.
