Now, we know what you might be thinking. "But what if I just want to make a nice 50k note for my own personal collection? It's not like I'm trying to buy a bar of washing soap at the shop. It is just for my social media and to put up as a portrait in the house!"
Unfortunately, the law doesn't make any exceptions for personal use. So, even if you have no intention of using your homemade currency to buy anything, it is still illegal to create it. Unfortunately, it is illegal to deface or alter the Ugandan currency notes in any way. This includes reprinting a copy of the currency with your own picture on it. It is a criminal offence to reproduce any currency notes, including coins, without the permission of the government. If you are caught doing this, you could face fines and even imprisonment of up to 14 years imprisonment.
So, if you want to show off your beautiful face to the world, there are plenty of other ways to do it that don't involve breaking the law. Maybe you can get a portrait painted or have a custom mug made with your face on it. Just remember to stay on the right side of the law when it comes to currency.
