“My Karamojong brothers, we have begged you to stop the life of robbery and violence. We have begged you to stop attacking your neighbours to no avail! You have refused all our appeals! Well, now we are coming and hell's coming with us.”
Gen. Muhoozi – March 23, 2022
A few hours later on the same day, he tweeted again;
“Karimojong criminals killed my soldiers in cold blood. There will be hell to pay for that! If they want to avoid retribution, they better get in touch with our RDCs and commanders in the region now. Otherwise, let us see who the real.men are.”
Three months later, last month it came to.light that close to 1000 Karimojong, mainly children and the elderly have so far starved to death since February this year. It is further reported that out of every 10 children in every household are suffering from severe malnutrition. The development comes amid Museveni's brutal military campaign in the region dubbed Operation Amani Kwa Wote (Peace for all). The said operation is allegedly aimed at disarming the Karimojong of illegal guns. Local and international human rights organisations, civil society, local leaders and other entities have loudly highlighted the ongoing atrocities in Karamoja. Indiscriminate brutal arrests and kidnaps, illegal detentions, physical torture, destruction of property including food granaries, among other atrocities. Images of soldiers posing with the skull as the rest of the victims was in flames in the background shocked the country.
Worst of all, the operation which commenced in November 2021, could not allow the victims who were under siege to do any form of farming. They could not even sell cows to raise money for buying food. Consequently, six months later a terrible food shortage hit the region and people have been starving to death. The catastrophe came in hand to reinforce the regime's ongoing Operation Amani Kwa Wote whose major objective is to subdue the people of Karamoja into submission. It is for this reason that it was not until the opposition, NUP mobilised food relief that the regime also started fidgeting with belief. The usual 'Mafias' saw an opportunity for another round of a cash Bonanza as Parliament passed a Shillings 135 billion and the USA donated USD 14m for food relief. It's coming to a month now but the said money has not been put to use and yet people continue to starve to death.
The current conflict in Karamoja is far different from the traditional armed cattle rustling. Owing to the fact that the region is the top mineral rich region, it has political-economic connotations. Miners are being ferried from the region without any tangible return to the poorest region of Uganda. It is said that the usual 'mafias' are targeting land grabbing and mining concessions in the mineral-rich Karamoja. In the same regard, the traditionally Pastoralist Karimojong are reported to be losing their livestock populations at a supersonic speed. It looks like there is a ploy to economically subdue them into submission. Starvation is one of the weapons at the disposal of autocratic regime's to suppress political dissent. By starting to die, the Karimojong have tested hell.
INFORMATION IS POWER AND THE PROBLEM OF UGANDA IS MUSEVENISM.
