The Arivu Sub-county political leadership, seller and buyer of a 6 acre land located in Ebira B village, Pajuru parish, Arivu Sub-county in Vurra Constituency, Arua District has on Tuesday 16-5-2023 been settled resolved peacefully. Mr Baptista Eneku Lema legally bought the land, 6 acres in November 2022. However, its purchase became contested when he wanted to survey the land he bought in Ebira B village, some few people led by Mr Okuonzi Jimmy from Alivu village in the same parish, showed up to frustrate the process, claiming it was not sold by the rightful owner. The event of Tuesday 16-5-2023 follows a security committee meeting resolution passed on Thursday 11-May-2023 involving Arua District security leadership, the complainant and the defendant, where Chairman of the meeting, Deputy RDC Mr Ezama Ham Mizamil made a decision to schedule a date for site inspection and surveying of the land with all the aggrieved parties. During the meeting that time 11-May-2023, Mr Okuonzi Jimmy who complained on behalf of Mrs Betina Bileru (the legal owner of the 3 quarter land) said, the sellers who are biological children of the land owner, sold it without informing  and giving her some money from the sale. The reason raised by the Complainant Mr Jimmy, triggered Deputy RDC Mr Ezama Ham to direct the Sub-county leadership to go together with the seller and buyer of the land to ensure the contested 3 quarter is curved out from the 6 acres that was sold. Mr Baptista who bought the land adhered to the recommendation from the meeting. However, Mr Luiji Pandeleyo aged 85 years, who calls the sellers as his grandchildren, voluntarily gave out 3 quarters of land from his own so that the buyer (Mr Baptista) doesn’t loose part of his money he paid. Mr Pandeleyo’s decision was gleefully accepted by both parties in the conflict.   : IP Alex Akee Advising the Community during the meeting on Tuesday 16-5-2023. Inspector of Police Alex Akee who was Commander of Police officers from Arua District CPS who went to monitor Tuesday’s dialogue and demarcation meeting, said, the role of Police is to protect the lives of people with their properties, that is why we have come here to monitor it. The deployment of Police by the police leadership came after the previous dialogue, demarcation and surveying meeting was marred with chaos from the complainants. IP Akee advised the people in Arivu Sub-county not to take law into their hands but should always follow appropriate channels to address their grievances. Hon Edema Felix the LC III Chairperson for Arivu Sub-county, warned the two parties not to blame or hate him over the decisions that are been made in this matter, adding that, some people want to hate him on allegations that, he might have been bribed with money. He made the remarks during the dialogue, demarcation and surveying of the land meeting on Tuesday 16-5-2023. All the decisions in this land conflict, are decisions from RDC’s office, which is above him and whoever is not satisfied over it should approach other top offices for guidance or legal redress, the LC3 lamented. Hon Edema while speaking to our reporter on Tuesday 16-5-2023, said, land conflict in Arivu Sub-county is alarming, with at least four cases reported to his office in a week. He appealed to government to offer sensitisation of community about the laws governing land ownership.  : Lawful Owner of the 3 Quarter Land, Mrs Betina Bileru speaking to Information is Power, on Tuesday 16-5-2023. On Tuesday after the 3 quarter of contested land was curved out, its owner Mrs Betina Bileru who is also a widow, spoke to our reporter and said, she is now happy and satisfied by the decision made by Deputy RDC Mr Ezama Ham Mizamil. She appreciated the buyer Mr Baptista Lema for the cooperation and compliance.   : Mr Okuonzi Jimmy Who Raised the Red Flag on Behalf of Mrs Betina Bileru, Speaking on Tuesday 5pm 16-5-2023 After the Matter was Resolved. After Mr Pandeleyo curved 3 quarter from his own land and gave it to the buyer to replace the contested portion, Mr Okuonzi Jimmy who was the key complainant on behalf of the Mrs Betina Bileru, apologized to the buyer Mr Baptista for the inconveniences he might have caused at the time he raised an alarm about it. He said, his issue has been resolved. Mr Okuonzi welcomed him (the buyer) to start investments on the land. The buyer Mr Baptista Lema thanked everyone for the cooperation in solving this conflict amicably without using forces, adding that, he can’t and he will never buy a land which has conflict. He noted that, much as he bought the land legally, he can’t apply any form of force against those who raised their complaints because he prefers dialogues, peace and harmony more than any other form of solution to challenges and misunderstandings. Mr Baptista urged anyone or any party involved in a land conflict to use appropriate means including dialogue to resolve the matter instead of taking the law into their hands. He strongly cautioned people against setting confusion in the process of selling and buying of land with many people these days reselling land that was already sold to another person, and also telling lies about history of some lands during dialogue meetings.
