Out of the total number of pupils who sat for Primary Leaving Exams in Maracha District last year, 40 passed in first grade and they were yesterday Saturday 8-January-2022 appreciated with gifts like Mattresses, Monies, Buckets and Scholastic materials.
One of the persons who benefited yesterday during the Award giving ceremony is a primary seven mathematics teacher who made one of the pupils to score Distinction One (D1) in mathematics and the teacher was appreciated with a money sealed in a brown envelope handed over to him by the area MP Hon Oguzu Lee in company of invited guests and other District officials.
Hon Obitre Stephen the LCV Chairperson for Maracha District rebuked some parents for only concentrating on boozing Enguli (a local made alcohol) on daily basis.
He said, some parents can contribute money 1,000 Shillings ($0.30) on daily basis just to drink alcohol but refuse to buy mere pencil or pen for their children.
The LCV Chairperson also castigated some of the District officials in Maracha District for disunity and contributing in one way or the other in the poor performance of school children in the District.
Mr Adomati Dickson who was the Chief Guest at the function, appreciated Hon Oguzu for such initiatives.
He said, no teacher is poor only if they can use their necessary skills, and gave an example on schools in Kampala like Kisuubi, Seeta and others whose teachers drive themselves with their personal cars yet our teachers here in WestNile can’t afford.
He continued saying, it’s because those teachers in Kampala put much efforts in educating their pupils / students that yields into producing bigger number of first graders, thus, definitely marketing their schools which will in the end attract many customers / parents to register their children there.
There are only three people who play a key role in Schooling and these are “Parents, Pupils / Students and Teachers” Mr Adomati reiterated as he promised to offer scholarships to any of the 40 first graders whose parents may not be afford school fees.
In his closing remarks, the Deputy RCC Arua upon invitation as the Chief Guest of the ceremony, eulogized President Museveni for enabling a fair environment that has made people to have peace, produce children and work hard.
In attendance was also Maracha District LCV Chairperson Hon Obitre Stephen, Head Masters and Teachers across the District, Hon Ruth Lematia MP Maracha East County wasn’t present and sent a delegate on her behalf.
