Senso has lost four elections since he entered politics. Even his wife did not vote for him when he stood for the LC 1 position in his village in Tumbuktu. From that moment, Senso stopped believing he could convince voters about anything, and he spent the next few years making money. He was told that the votes were for sale. Then he heard that the district MP had died in a road accident. Immediately, Senso returned for the burial and announced that he was running for the MP position. He then decided to target the women because they voted the most in his village and started delivering small gift baskets to the women with money, shoes, clothing and monthly allowance to help them at home. The strategy seemed to work, and he was elected. He has since been boasting that he bought the election. Can his opponent sue him for this?WHAT DOES THE LAW SAY?By law, elections are supposed to be free and fair. This means everyone gets to choose who they want to vote for based on their own opinions and ideas without anyone trying to stop, influence, or force them to vote a certain way. It also means candidates have an equal chance of being voted. Therefore when Senso gave the voters money and gifts, this was an act of influencing their ability to vote based on their opinion, and it is called bribery. This is illegal, and if found guilty, Senso can even be sentenced to up to 3 years imprisonment. However, giving snacks or drinks at the campaign grounds may not be a bribe. Furthermore, even the other candidates can sue Senso and ask the court to order a new election because Senso influenced the election.

Again on this 4-December-2023, the same USA has slapped sanctions against Uganda Prisons Commander Johnson Byabashaija over alleged torture and human rights abuses in Prisons across Uganda. We ask, has USA and UK made December as an LCM to slap sanctions against high ranking government officials in Uganda even when the sanctions just remain on paper without deeper investigations to ascertain logical conclusions or remedy to that effect ?. #iip_updates #Information_is_Power #we_inform_the_uninformed
