Leaders, Clergies in WestNile Rally Behind UNFPA & Save the Children NGOs to Fight Teenage Pregnancies and Child Marriages.
During a meeting orgainsed by Save the Children in partnership with UNFPA which was held on Wednesday 7-Dec-2022 at Crane Resort Hotel Arua, leaders compromising of RDCs, LC5s, DHOs, CAOs and Clergies from the two main religions (Christianity and Islam) have thrown their weights behind Save the Children, a none governmental organisation established in UK in 1919 with objectives in improving the health and livelihood of Children around the World.
The seven hours meeting was subjected to brainstorming session amongst the four groups of the attendants (RDCs, Clergies, DHOs and CAOs) with each group splitted into where they belong and they each generated lists containing the causes and the solutions to end Teenage pregnancies and Child marriages in WestNile region.
Coincidentally, four of these groups generated almost similar causes and solutions to end the vice of Teenage pregnancy which is so alarming in the region, with over 50 to 100 Young girls getting pregnant on daily basis.

The Arua District LC5 Chairman Hon Alfred Okuonzi thanked UNFPA, Reproductive Health and Save the Children for their initiatives in curtailing teenage pregnancies and child marriages in WestNile and Uganda.

LC5 Chairman said, for a population to be productive, it must be checked by two factors; positive and negative factors, adding that, we can't reap from increasing population of young people if they are unproductive and sitting by the road side everyday.
The scientists have now come up with "social behavior change communication strategy" to help curtail the vice, he said.
Hon Okuonzi reaffirmed the need for urgently sensitize and improve sexual reproductive health amongst adolescent age, something which, he said is under threat.
The LC5 Chairman appealed to parents to build strong bedroom institution, a statement he justified by saying, if we have strong pillars of parents which starts right direct from bedrooms, we would not be experiencing much headaches in resolving these catastrophic challenges that are eating up our societies.
The Deputy RDC for Arua District, Mr Ezama Ham whole giving his closing remarks before adjourning the meeting, emphasized on self respect amongst parents.

He said, if parents are disrespectful, they will instill disrespect into the children.
Mr Ezama Ham called for coordination and cooperation amongst RDCs, politicians, clergies and other stakeholders in the fight against Teenage pregnancies and Child marriages in WestNile region and Uganda.
