LC V Chairman Hon Alfred Okuonzi Commends Media, NGO Networks for Doing “Checks & Balances” on Government.
In a lengthy engagement meeting organized by WestNile Civil Society Network held on Tuesday 6-Dec-2022 at Tropical Suites Hotel to assess the performance of Government and different sectors amongst the communities, the Arua District LC5 Chairman Hon Alfred Okuonzi has thanked the Media fraternity and the various none profit organizations like “WestNile Civil Society Network” and others that are doing what they can, to monitor, awaken and put to task different government departments, organizations and as well as individuals occupying various positions in WestNile region and Uganda.
Hon Alfred said, these days, many of the Citizens seem to dodge away their responsibilities of holding government and other departments to be accountable by sitting near by the roadsides just to beg for some small small monies, which he loosely pronounced in Lugbara language “Afazi weere yoya”.
The people should not mortgage their responsibilities, he added, as he continued to thank “Media” and “NGO Networks” for single-handedly continuing to play the role which is supposed to be the role of majority of the Citizens.
The Hon LC5 also responded to some issues like increasing teenage pregnancies, where he quoted from the available statistics, that there are 40 young girls who are getting pregnant daily bringing the total number of teenage pregnancies to over 1500 monthly in Arua District.
This, he said is majorly factored by poor parenting by many parents who let their children go like astray animals.
As people will be going home, at 9pm and 10pm, you find many young children coming out to the trading centers and one wonders why and what is happening, Hon Alfred Okuonzi averred.
