This is because police bond is supposed only to allow a person to be released until the police complete their investigations.

Once those investigations are complete and the court is ready to hear the case, the police no longer have any powers to offer you temporary freedom. In short, your police bond expires, and you have to ask for something new called bail, depending on whether you admitted to having committed the crime.

If you have pleaded "not guilty", you have the right to ask the court to consider giving you bail so that you can be released on the condition that you will report to court for a hearing while your case is being heard and determined.

If you have informed the court that you are "guilty," you cannot ask for bail. Instead, the court may either sentence you immediately or remand you to prison while considering what punishment to give you.
