The clergies from Christianity ✝️ and Muslim ☪️ faiths in WestNile have proposed Disco operations to be banned over alarming cases of teenage pregnancies and child marriages in the region.
The clergies made the plea this afternoon 7-Dec-2022 at Crane Resort Hotel Arua during a meeting fostering on ending Teenage pregnancies and child marriages in the region, organised by Save the Children, a none profit organisation.
Rev Father Charles Obiguma said, 7 teenage pregnancy girls committed suicide in 2020, 14 committed suicide last year 2021 and 5 have committed suicide this year 2022 in Oluvu Sub-county alone.
Rev Fr Obiguma appealed for unity and cooperation amongst the various sectors in the Country as we fight teenage pregnancies and child marriages.
Imam Habib Aluma who is the regional secretary for Uganda Muslim Supreme Council reiterated that, most of these sexual activities amongst teenagers takes place during night market hours.
He suggested the need for Local Governments to regulate night markets, a narrative he defended by saying, many times as people go home, young girls and boys come out to the trading centers at night.
