Once upon a Bible, (We are sure you’ve heard all this before, but bear with us) Jesus was accused of blasphemy (by healing people on the sabbath), threatening to destroy the temple and claiming to be the king of the Jews (this last one is called treason in our time by the way, and it means doing things to overthrow the government).
Because of this, the people were asked what punishment he should get. We are sure some said “bambi forgive him”, but as you know how loud crowds can get, so no one probably heard those ones. So, the ruler (who also happened to be the judge then) decided that he should be crucified. This got us thinking about a few serious things like the right to life.
The Ugandan laws say that all of us have a right to life, meaning that we are entitled to keep breathing and no one should kill us unless there is happens lawfully such as when a person is found guilty of a very serious crime whose punishment is death.
These serious crimes are called capital offenses and only the high court can give you this punishment of death. A few of these are murder, kidnapping with intent to murder, rape, aggravated defilement, terrorism, and treason.
Also, things such as blasphemy are not criminal offenses here, and if Jesus had been Ugandan, he would not have been sentenced to death for this, (or probably even tried).
