THE EMPLOYER PRETENDS TO NEED A DEGREE;
THE EMPLOYEE PRETENDS TO HAVE ONE.

Credentialism is a reliance on formal qualifications or certifications to determine whether someone is permitted to undertake a task, speak as an expert or work in a certain field. It has also been defined as "excessive reliance on credentials, especially academic degrees, in determining hiring or promotion policies.".
Many Ugandan so called journalists report dog bites when in Kenya and elsewhere, journalists report when some one bites a dog. Hope you get the difference.
Only in Uganda, you shortlist an applicant who has a bachelors degree, a diploma in some thing, has MBA and ACCA plus CPA with several certificates. He also lectures part time etc.
At the end of the interview you wonder if the guy is like you have now known beyond the papers, how about those he teaches? How will his students be?
That is when you will understand the societal impact of the new Ugandan disease called Credentialism.
The symptoms are
1. Death in our hospitals due to wrong diagnosis or discovered late,
2. News not reported and if reported its not edited,
3. You go pick your own hard earned money in the bank and someone is disinterested to give you, not aware you pay their salary.
They are infront of the mirror correcting the hair.
4. The roads are death traps from design and built badly.
Now these ones sat and "Passed" Some assessment exams, and this is the outcome.
Now they have said no exams sijui what will happen, so what do we expect 10 years or 20 years from now? Unfortunate many of us here will be between 65 and 85. In need of due care but the society will be something.
It hurts to imagine such a future.
Good Day Team.
