Magumba got into some legal troubles last year, but luckily the \"real\" thief was caught and police set Magumba free. Early last week, Magumba was moving through the market trying to decide what to buy for his supper when a certain vendor pointed at him and told the police officer that Magumba was an accused person and he must have escaped from the police custody. He was immediately arrested and the vendor kept raising an alarm while Magumba was being carried out of the market. She kept saying that once a thief meant always a thief. Does this mean that Magumba is still an accused person?
NO! This is because when a case against a person is closed, then that person cannot be under any suspicion any longer.
What is an Accusation?
This means an allegation that a person is guilty of some fault, offence, or crime; For example if it is claimed that you stole something, and subsequently brought before a court of law, you will be accused of the crime of theft.
However, if you are found innocent of the theft, then you are set free and the accusation against you is dropped. (in law we call this being acquitted). On the other hand, if you are found guilty of the crime, then you become a convicted person. When you finish serving your prison sentence you become a free man or woman and no one has a right to call you an accused person after this.
