BREAKING NEWS. Intelligence Agencies Have Arrested Howard J Openjuru, Leader of Westnile-Based Rebel Group Uganda Homeland Liberation Movement (UHLM).
The Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) has apprehended Howard Jakernga Openjuru, the leader of Uganda Homeland Liberation Force (UHLF) – a rebel movement which attacked a UPDF detach in Zombo, West Nile in July 2021.
The daring attack in Zombo – about 485 kms from the Capital City Kampala, left two soldiers dead and others wounded.
In another attack in 2020, the same rebel movement killed five soldiers before fleeing back to the jungles in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
ChimpReports has now established that CMI agents tracked Openjuru right from Paidha in West Nile up to Njeru near Jinja Town where the suspected rebel leader was intercepted this Saturday afternoon.
“Openjuru resisted arrest in his safe house but CMI operatives overpowered him and others,” said a highly placed source who preferred anonymity to speak freely.

It’s understood that security operatives did not use gunfire during the scuffle with Openjuru.
He is expected to be interrogated over his subversive activities.
Openjuru has previously taken responsibility for rebel attacks in West Nile.
He had earlier battled charges of treason at the Court Martial.
On being released on bail, Openjuru disappeared before using Facebook to declare war on Uganda.
On May 26, 2016, Openjuru reportedly attacked Gulu Central Police Station where his gang killed several policemen.
Recently, one of the rebel commanders, commonly known as Col Athochon, reportedly surrendered to the security operatives of DR Congo, who later handed him over to the Ugandan security team.
The commander of the Land Forces, Lt. Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, recently announced that four of the rebels who attacked a UPDF unit in Zombo surrendered to the area RDC.
Patrick Oryema,60, a member of UHLF also surrendered to the security team in Nebbi District, confessing how UHLF orchestrated the recent attack in Zombo.
The military intelligence also captured three suspected accomplices of Openjuru in Njeru.
