"I have been dating this guy for two years now. He is a good guy. He loves and cares for me and has always said that I am the only woman in the world for him. 'Mbu', I am his sunshine and the only reason he lives. But this man of mine is the same one who hasn't yet sent me flowers. I mean, it is Valentine's Day, for goodness' sake. How dare he forget? I expected my desk at work to be filled with chocolate, flowers and even a money bouquet to post on my Instagram but alas! I am angry, and I want to take legal action against him. Can I?"
WHAT DOES THE LAW SAY?
According to the law, before taking any kind of legal action, you are supposed to have a reason for taking that action. For example, if you want to sue someone in court, you are supposed to have a cause of action. A cause of action is why one party may take another to court.
Unfortunately, your not getting flowers from your boyfriend does not provide a plausible cause of action in law. This means you do not have reasonable grounds to sue your boyfriend even if you are disappointed that he has not sent you flowers today. You, therefore, cannot take legal action against him.
Perhaps your best option would be to talk to him and tell him about your disappointment in him for not remembering that today was Valentine's Day and you expected him to do something special for me.
