New Democratic Party (DP) Icon Jose Chameleon Endorses Kyadondo East MP Bobi Wine For Presidency Come 2021.
Singer turned politician, Joseph Mayanja alias Jose Chameleone has endorsed leader of the ‘People Power’ political grouping and fellow musician, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine) as the country’s next President.
Chameleone was Tuesday addressing residents of Masindi, Hoima district at the final political rally ahead of the Hoima district woman MP by-elections scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday September 26.
The MP seat fell vacant after Tophace Kaahwa Byagira (NRM) chose to represent the newly created Kikuube district that was carved out of Hoima in July 2018.
Top contenders in the election are FDC’s Asinasi Kamanda Nyakato supported by a combined team of the opposition Democratic Party (DP), Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) and ‘People Power’ movement and NRM’s Harriet Businge Mugenyi.
According to Chameleone who is also Democratic Party’s National Mobiliser, Ugandans should in 2021 replace President Yoweri Museveni who has been in power for over three decades, with Kyagulanyi. He also rallied voters to vote opposition politicians in the general elections.
“As the DP national Mobiliser, I ask you the people of Masindi to vote for Nyakato because she is the voice of change in this area. I am also here to tell you that my President in 2021 is Bobi Wine and we should all rally behind him to take the country forward,” said Chameleone.
His revelation implies that he will rally his support behind Wine for Presidency. It is not yet clear whether his party (Democratic Party) will front a candidate for President.
Chameleone has already expressed interest in standing for Mayor in Kampala city. It is not clear whether his endorsement is not related to his political aspirations. Bobi Wine recently cautioned politicians against using his ‘People Power’ movement for their personal political motives.
Meanwhile, residents in Hoima say that there is heavy security deployment with different security personnel seen patrolling the area.
