WHO IS CLASSIFIED AS A HERO ?.

Bits recently bought ‘malwa’ for all the customers at the popular village bar. Chairman the LC chairman on finishing his last drink announced that Bits is now a national hero and he should be given benefits in the village as their hero. Bits now walks around with bodyguards and a sash that reads,” national hero”. He even wants to be recognized at the National Hero’s Day celebration. Is Bits really a national hero? WHAT DOES THE LAW SAY ?. The National Honors and Awards Act provides that only the President of Uganda can declare someone a hero. Someone cannot therefore be recognized as a national hero if that title has been given to them by anyone else other than the President. The Act provides that the Presidential Awards committee will advise the President on who is to be given an award. This therefore means that although Bits might be a village hero for buying people brew, he is not a national hero since the award was not given to him by the President of Uganda.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire says Akol Esther might be demoted or expelled from the police force if found guilty of circulating nude photos. Police court is yet to announce date when Akol Esther is expected to appear for a hearing. This comes at a time when Pornography Control Committee is taking tough measures against persons circulating pornography content. The committee warned and promised to arrest persons who will circulate pornographic content.
