Did you know that today is the international day of the African child?
The International day of the African child has been celebrated on June 16 every year since 1991, when it was first introduced by the Organisation of African Unity (OAU). The purpose of this day is to honour those who participated in the Soweto Uprising on June 16th, 1976.
It also serves as a reminder to keep raising awareness for the improvement of education provided to African children.
As we celebrate this day, let us remember to reflect on our rights and duties as citizens towards children.
The Ugandan Constitution states that all children have the right to be cared for, protected, and maintained but also, they all have the right to education. Let collectively work to ensure that we work towards providing care and education for all children in Uganda as we remember this day of the African child.
