#SadNews Assistant Superintendent of Police Afande Tumusime of Palorinya refugees settlement in Moyo district lies with bullet stuck in his chest after he was shot by a South Sudanese refugee believed to have mental problems. The South Sudanese grabbed a gun from another police man before hitting the police officer. Tumusime has been airlifted to Kampala in a helicopter for emergency medical attention. The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has released a report on an investigation into the alleged breach of minimum broadcasting standards by 13 broadcasters finding a number of them culpable. The investigation followed UCC’s directive in May 2019 to have Head of News and Head of Programmes of radios including Akaboozi FM, Beat FM, CBS FM Sapiensa FM, Pearl FM and Simba FM suspended in relation to their coverage of the arrest and subsequent remand of Kyadondo East MP, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine, on April 29. The directive also applied to BBS TV, Bukedde TV Kingdom TV, NBS TV, NTV, Salt TV. It took the involvement of National Association of Broadcasters (NAB), to ask the communication regulator, UCC, to rescind its directive pending investigations. President Museveni interfaced with thousands of young people who had gathered to demonstrate love for their country. The function was organised by the National Patriotism Secretariat and other young people like city events promoter Balaam Barugahara. Upon completion the costs of transporting petroleum products are likely to drop by almost 50%. The Fuel terminal and transport system will help ease transportation of fuel between Kenya and Uganda since the Kenya has a fuel terminal at Kisumu on L.Victoria. Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has described as false and baseless media reports claiming that the Force has arrested some supporters of opposition pressure group ‘People Power’ found donning red berets. This comes a couple of days after UPDF included a red beret and other items in the country’s first-ever gazette of all military clothing, which states that any member of the public found in possession of the items “is liable on conviction to imprisonment for life”, under section 160 of the 2005 UPDF Act. According to the army spokesperson, Brig Richard Karemire, the move to gazette the UPDF dress code was endorsed by the top organs of the army which also commended the dress committee for concluding the task assigned to it years back. The European Union can order Facebook to monitor and remove illegal content from the platform, even if it's posted by people outside of the EU, according to a landmark ruling by Europe's top court. The Court of Justice of the European Union said that Facebook may need to comply with takedown requests globally. "EU law does not preclude a host provider such as Facebook from being ordered to remove identical and, in certain circumstances, equivalent comments previously declared to be illegal," the court said Thursday 3 October 2019 in a press release. The ruling relates to the case of Eva Glawisching-Piesczek, the chairwoman of Greens Parliamentary Party in Austria who asked an Austrian court to order Facebook to remove comments that she said were defamatory. Remember the Simjacker vulnerability? Earlier this month, we reported about a critical unpatched weakness in a wide range of SIM cards, which an unnamed surveillance company has actively been exploiting in the wild to remotely compromise targeted mobile phones just by sending a specially crafted SMS to their phone numbers. If you can recall, the Simjacker vulnerability resides in a dynamic SIM toolkit, called the S@T Browser, which comes installed on a variety of SIM cards, including eSIM, provided by mobile operators in at least 30 countries. Now, it turns out that the S@T Browser is not the only dynamic SIM toolkit that contains the Simjacker issue which can be exploited remotely from any part of the world without any authorization—regardless of which handsets or mobile operating systems victims are using.
