Over 40 Drivers Could Let Hackers Install Persistent Backdoor On Windows PCs.If you own a device, or a hardware component, manufactured by ASUS, Toshiba, Intel, NVIDIA, Huawei, or other 15 other vendors listed below, you're probably screwed.

A team of security researchers has discovered high-risk security vulnerabilities in more than 40 drivers from at least 20 different vendors that could allow attackers to gain most privileged permission on the system and hide malware in a way that remains undetected over time, sometimes for years. For sophisticated attackers, maintaining persistence after compromising a system is one of the most important tasks, and to achieve this, existing hardware vulnerabilities sometimes play an important role. One such component is a device driver, commonly known as a driver or hardware driver, a software program that controls a particular type of hardware device, helping it to communicate with the computer's operating system properly. Since device drivers sit between the hardware and the operating system itself and in most cases have privileged access to the OS kernel, a security weakness in this component can lead to code execution at the kernel layer. This privilege escalation attack ...

Ebola is Now Curable. Here is  How The New Treatments Work. A clinical trial in the Democratic Republic of Congo has been testing new Ebola drugs with dramatic results. For newly infected patients on one of the drugs, the mortality rate dropped to 6 percent. Amid unrelenting chaos and violence, scientists and doctors in the Democratic Republic of Congo have been running a clinical trial of new drugs to try to combat a year-long Ebola outbreak. On Monday, the trial’s cosponsors at the World Health Organization and the National Institutes of Health announced that two of the experimental treatments appear to dramatically boost survival rates. While an experimental vaccine previously had been shown to shield people from catching Ebola, the news marks a first for people who already have been infected. “From now on, we will no longer say that Ebola is incurable,” said Jean-Jacques Muyembe, director general of the Institut National de Recherche Biomedicale in the DRC, which has ove...

Museveni Blames Ugandans For Choosing To Be Poor.

Comment on my just concluded wealth creation countrywide tour To all Ugandans, especially the Buzzukulu Greetings. I have concluded my countrywide tour of the 20 zones. My idea of using these 20 zones for sensitization comes from the 19 Independence Districts, which themselves had grown out of the 15 colonial districts. The colonial districts were: West Nile; Acholi; Lango; Karamoja; Teso; Bugisu; Bukedi; Busoga; Mengo; Mubende; Masaka; Ankole; Kigyezi; Tooro; and Bunyoro. This is according to a clockwise movement from West Nile. At independence, on account of the cultural and linguistic considerations, four new Districts were created. These were: Madi out of West Nile; Sebei out of Bugisu; Kasese out of Tooro; and Bundibugyo (Bwamba) out of Tooro. This brought the total to 19. Kasese and Bundibugyo were created during Amin’s time, responding to the resistance by the Bakonjo and Baamba to the mistakes of the managers of the Tooro kingdom, before the abolition of the kingdoms ...

Facebook Sues Two Android App Developers for Click Injection Fraud.

The Social Media Giant has filed a lawsuit against two shady Android app developers accused of making illegal money by hijacking users' smartphones to fraudulently click on Facebook ads. According to Facebook, Hong Kong-based 'LionMobi' and Singapore-based 'JediMobi' app developers were distributing malicious Android apps via the official Google Play Store that exploit a technique known as "click injection fraud." Click injection is a type of attribution fraud where fraudsters manipulate the attributions to steal the credit from the actual source of app installation in an advertising process that involves Cost Per Installation model. In simple words, a malicious app installed on a device automatically generates a fake click to the advertisement network with its own tracking codes when it finds that the user is installing a new app from any other source to claim itself as the source of the installation. Therefore, Advertisers end up paying commission ...

Meanwhile, Somewhere in Uganda, Soldiers Share Health Facility With Civilians.

Bombo General Military Hospital is Overwhelmed by the Number of Civilians, who Drain the Facility`s Stock Forcing the Army to Refer its Officers to Private Facilities. The Hospital’s Director Col. Dr Ronald Nangamba says that 80 per cent of the patients attended at Bombo are civilian patients who have no relationship with the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF). “You realize that the practice of attending to 80 per cent of patients that you initially did not budget for creates a lot of constraints on the available resources and this explains why we have stock-outs of supplies,” Nangamba said. He was appearing before Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament on Thursday, to explain audit queries raised in the June 2018 audit report. In the report, Auditor General queried the first option patient referrals to the Nakasero Hospital Kampala, a private for-profit facility that is known to be fairly expensive. He said that the patients are referred for medications suc...

Apple To Pay Hackers $1 Million For Reporting Vulnerabilities.

The American Technology Company has just updated the rules of its bug bounty program by announcing a few major changes during a briefing at the annual Black Hat security conference yesterday. One of the most attractive updates is… Apple has enormously increased the maximum reward for its bug bounty program from $200,000 to $1 million—that's by far the biggest bug bounty offered by any major tech company for reporting vulnerabilities in its products. The $1 million payouts will be rewarded for a severe deadly exploit—a zero-click kernel code execution vulnerability that enables complete, persistent control of a device's kernel. Less severe exploits will qualify for smaller payouts. What's more? From now onwards, Apple's bug bounty program is not just applicable for finding security vulnerabilities in the iOS mobile operating system, but also covers all of its operating systems, including macOS, watchOS, tvOS, iPadOS, and iCloud. Since its inception around three...

Your ignorance is nobody’s problem. You must keep this peace, which you don’t know how long it took some people to sacrifice in order to bring it,” Ali said. He added that the thirty years of peace in Uganda have made young people to violently abuse it. “For over 30 years Uganda has enjoyed the peace and now young people are taking advantage of it, trying to get peace dividends but we ask you to respect this peace because it came with a big price.” Gen Ali also asked young p...

Uganda Government To Register, Regulate and Tax Bloggers Who Have Many Online Followers.

Influencers on Ugandan social media and others with large, commercialised online followings must henceforth register their activities for monitoring by the state, the country’s communications regulator said on Thursday. Authorities say the scheme, which also levies a $20 fee, is designed to clamp down on immoral or prejudiced content. Critics view it as part of an escalating campaign by President Yoweri Museveni to suppress online content disapproving of him and his government. Last week, University Lecturer and Social researcher Stella Nyanzi was jailed for 18 months on cyber harassment charges stemming from a Facebook post criticizing Museveni. According to digital communications rights watchdog Unwanted Witness, between 2016 and 2018 at least 33 Ugandans have either been summoned and interrogated by police or charged with online communications offences. The registration scheme is “not a positive move, it infringes on the rights to freedom of expression. People are able ...

CCTV footage showed three plain clothed men leading him out of office into a waiting double cabin pick up. The Kampala High Court has Friday ordered the Auditor General to commence an audit into Uganda Telecom Limit with immediate effect. Justice Musa Sekaana ruled in favor of the national Broadcaster, UBC who requested the audit. UBC is one of the creditors of the struggling telecom. In his ruling, Justice Sekaana ordered the audit into UTL — which is currently under administration –  to be conducted within a period of 30 days from today. “The audit report should be presented/given to all the creditors of the company,” he further ruled. New Flaws in Qualcomm Chips Expose Millions of Android Devices to Hacking.

A series of critical vulnerabilities have been discovered in Qualcomm chipsets that could allow hackers to compromise Android devices remotely just by sending malicious packets over-the-air with no user interaction. Discovered by security researchers from Tencent's Blade team, the vulnerabilities, collectively known as QualPwn, reside in the WLAN and modem firmware of Qualcomm chipsets that powers hundreds of millions of Android smartphones and tablets. According to researchers, there are primarily two critical vulnerabilities in Qualcomm chipsets and one in the Qualcomm's Linux kernel driver for Android which if chained together could allow attackers to take complete control over targeted Android devices within their Wi-Fi range. "One of the vulnerabilities allows attackers to compromise the WLAN and Modem over-the-air. The other allows attackers to compromise the Android Kernel from the WLAN chip. The full exploit chain allows attackers to compromise the Android Kern...

DEEP POLITICAL ANALYSIS NARRATING WHY OTAFIRE ALWAYS SUPPORTS MUSEVENI.

Gen. Kahinda Otafiire is Museveni's Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs.  He is the the outgoing Member of Parliament for Ruhinda in the Bushenyi sub region. He is the only top politician among all  the non Hima who participated in Museveni's bush war who is still clinging on Museveni. Being an ethnic Mwiru from Bushenyi, Gen Otafiire was also a victim of Museveni's ethnic scemes during the bush war. Like several other University graduates who hailed from other non Hima geographical areas, he was systematically kept out of the mainstream military and instead assigned to civilian political work. He never at one time throughout the five years of the bush war got involved in combat not because he was incapable or a coward but because Museveni did not want him to. This was the same case with the likes of Mushega, Butime, Kigongo, Kategaya, Mbabazi, Dr. Kamanyire, Katenta Apuuli, and others. Museveni kept them off the mainstream military service in order ...
