"WE SPEAK FOR THE NATION" group on whatsapp has just shared a missile. [Click on this link to join https://chat.whatsapp.com/D0CSXWzrgsTFSViGHbWnb4 ]. AGE LIMIT HAS BECOME THE AGE LIMIT.
"As the MPs consider scraping off the upper age limit for one to qualify to be the President of Uganda, let them also scrap off the lower age limit of 35 years so that we can have youthful Presidents. Is that not discrimination against young people who form the majority of our population (65%)?
What about the legal age of consent and adulthood of 18? Let them also scrap it off so that the law on defilement is also scrapped off. Can't MPs also consider that as descrimanation against the rights of those who want to marry or get married before 18 years of age?
Let MPs also consider scraping the law on Child labour so that children who want to be employed can get jobs before 18 years. Is it not also descrimanation against those who want gainful employment before the age of 18?.
Let the MPs also remove the age limit of retirement at 60 years age for one who wants to continue to serve in public service beyond 60 years to do so possibly until death. That wilI enable government to save billions of money paid to pensioners every year, let alone that which is squandered by corrupt govment officials. It will also make this country close the Uganda Retirement Regulatory Authority which are consuming tax payers money for nothing. Doesn't MPs consider that as descrimanation against civil servants?
Currently only MPs who have failed to win elections after saving as MPs for consecutive terms are the ones who are enrolled to get pension from Parliamentary Pension Commission. Is that not discrimination against MPs who have served for anly one term? Let the MPs also abolish that criterion for all legislators to benefit from that pension scheme.
Let the MPs also consider lifting the age limit of 55 years for one to access the NSSF savings. That will enable accessibility to NSSF payments at any time people so wish without any hussle. In addition, NSSF beneficiaries could also be paid off at once and we close it since it has become a lucrative window of corruption. Are the MPs not considering that as descrimonation of all young people who have been saving with NSSF and are now jobless or interested in getting their money to start their own business and become self employed?
If these are worthy of deliberations in parliment, I challenge all MPs to also argue these things out since those have also led to inequalities."
