Microsoft Will Stop Supporting Windows 7 One Year Later.

If   you still use Windows 7, it may be time to consider an upgrade. Starting Jan. 14, 2020, exactly one year from Monday, Microsoft will no longer support Windows 7. That means no more updates or security fixes for the operating system. "Changes and upgrades in technology are inevitable," said Brad Anderson, corporate vice president for Microsoft 365, in a blog. "And there's never been a better time to start putting in motion the things you need to do to shift your organization to a modern desktop with Microsoft 365." Microsoft will continue to provide security updates for Windows 7 to business customers that pay for support, according to ZDNet, but not individual users. Windows 7 was released in 2009 and is still one of the most widely used desktop operating systems. Windows 10 finally overtook Windows 7 in the desktop market at the end of last year, according to ZDNet. Oklahoma securities commission. A massive government data belonging to the Oklahoma Department of Securities (ODS) was left unsecured on a storage server for at least a week, exposing a whopping 3 terabytes of data containing millions of sensitive files. The unsecured storage server, discovered by Greg Pollock, a researcher with cybersecurity firm UpGuard, also contained decades worth of confidential case files from the Oklahoma Securities Commission and many sensitive FBI investigations—all wide open and accessible to anyone without any password. Other severe files exposed included emails, social security numbers, names, and addresses of 10,000 brokers, credentials for remote access to ODS workstations, and communications meant for the Oklahoma Securities Commission, along with a list of identifiable information related to AIDS patients. DRC poll hub: Elections boss confirms delay of initial results.

CENI confirms no results till further notice. Elections boss, Corneille Nangaa has officially stated that preliminary results from the December 30 elections will be delayed, the AP news agency reported today, January 6, 2019. Today had been scheduled for the release of initial results but CENI had earlier last week warned that the process could delay because of the slow transmission of tally sheets. The Catholic Church said almost 24-hours later that its independent tabulation showed that there was an outright winner of the polls. That position earned it flak from the ruling FCC coalition. Internet services have been shutdown in a move justified by government as necessary to maintain peace and security as it will curtail the incidence of spreading fake results. Tensions are likely to move a notch higher as Congolese await the release of results. Barely a day after the vote the ruling coalition and two main opposition camps claimed victory without giving any figures. The Church, w...

Thousands of Google Chromecast Devices Hijacked to Promote PewDiePie.

A group of hackers has hijacked tens of thousands of Google's Chromecast streaming dongles, Google Home smart speakers and smart TVs with built-in Chromecast technology in recent weeks by exploiting a bug that's allegedly been ignored by Google for almost five years. The attackers, who go by Twitter handles @HackerGiraffe and @j3ws3r, managed to hijack Chromecasts’ feeds and display a pop-up, spreading a security warning as well as controversial YouTube star PewDiePie propaganda. The hackers are the same ones who hijacked more than 50,000 internet-connected printers worldwide late last year by exploiting vulnerable printers to print out flyers asking everyone to subscribe to PewDiePie YouTube channel. This time, the hackers remotely scanned the internet for compatible devices, including Chromecasts, exposed to the internet through poorly configured routers that have Universal Plug and Play [UPnP] enabled by default. The hackers then exploited a design flaw in Chromecast t...

United Nations To Appoint New Envoy To Somalia.

The United Nations will appoint a new envoy to Somalia, following the expulsion of the Special Representative of the U.N. Secretary-General in that country. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Friday agreed to appoint a new UN envoy after Somalia’s president refused to reverse the decision to expel Nicholas Haysom for raising human rights concerns. Guterres spoke by phone with President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed on Friday, his second call to the Somali leader in three days, to once again urge him to change his mind, according to diplomats. But the president dug in his heels and said Haysom would remain persona non grata and would not be allowed to return to Somalia, diplomats said. Official UN reaction? Guterres “deeply regrets” Somalia’s decision, said UN spokesman Farhan Haq, adding that the UN chief nevertheless intends to appoint a new UN envoy. The UN Security Council met behind closed doors to agree on a response to Somalia’s decision. But...

DRC Poll: U.N Concerned About `Efforts To Silence Dissent`.

Tallying centres in Kinshasa began compiling results of last weekend’s chaotic elections in the Democratic Republic of Congo on Friday following delays in getting local tallies ready for central counting. DRC’s electoral body, (CENI) announced a delay of results having received only 20 percent of votes it said. “We don’t know how long it will take to compile the results but there is a lot of work to do. Even if they say they will give results on Sunday we don’t think it will be possible because we only started today and until now, in the Mount Amba district, where we have 904 polling stations, we still haven’t got through 100’‘, said Papi Sakalamba, witness from the camp of an independent candidate. Intimidation and harassment against journalists, opposition candidates and human rights defenders continues to take place, and this being a very sensitive. Hackers Selling Millions Of Voter Records On The Dark Web.

Experts discovered over 35 million US voter records for sale in a hacking forum. Millions of voter records are available for sale on the Dark Web, experts from Anomali and Intel 471 discovered 35 million US voter records for sale in a hacking forum. Researchers have analyzed a sample of voter records and determined the data to be valid with a high degree of confidence. Records in the voter registration database include personal and voting history information of US residents. “Certain states require the seller to personally travel to locations in-state to receive the updated voter information.” reads the post published by Anomali. “This suggests the information disclosure is not necessarily a technical compromise but rather a likely targeted campaign by a threat actor redistributing possibly legitimately obtained voter data for malicious purposes on a cybercrime forum,”  The seller only provided the number of records for the lists of...

Better Pay Attention. Lack of Civic Education, Sensitisation and Educating Of Our People is Killing Mentality of Our Youth Generation.

The Politics of Vote me Because i Speak the Truths, i am Tough Talking, i am a Critique and among other Few Speech  Bending Bubbles. Dear Fellow Ugandans, Africans and World at Large, Happy New Year 2019. As this been our First Phrase in this New Year 2019, we are warmly obliged to write and Sensitise Our People, Particularly the Youth Generation about their seemingly destructive believe on some Political Concoctions. Well, it is not somehow Bad if we Elect MPs or Presidents who are Fluent in Arguing and Speaking the Truths but it should be stuck in Our Minds that, These Kinds of People are mainly self-centered to the Extent, they use their Positions and Influences to Selfishly and Greedily invest Themselves. Scramble For Africa is Back. Geopolitics: Qatar wants its piece of the African cake.

Qatar has joined the global powers and nations that are working to increase their influence on the African continent, opening its taps for aid and cooperation. The small, but gas-rich nation has increased efforts to show it is a force for good in international security since its Gulf Arab neighbours imposed a diplomatic and economic boycott on it in June 2017, accusing it of supporting terrorism. Qatar is the world’s biggest liquefied natural gas (LNG) exporter. Qatar sends 24 armoured vehicles to Mali. This week, the rich Gulf nation airlifted 24 armoured vehicles to Mali, in a move it said would help the countries of the African Sahel region combat terrorism. Qatari military planes delivered the vehicles, its foreign ministry said, adding the shipment would help “combat terrorism and establish security not only in the Republic of Mali but also in the African Sahel countries known as the G5.” The G5 of Mali, Niger, Burkina Faso, Chad and Mauritania last year cre...

Top Opposition Figure Martin Fayulu to Win DRC Election: New Opinion Polls.

A new opinion poll for the presidential election in Democratic Republic of Congo says opposition candidate Martin Fayulu of the Lamuka coalition, has become the clear favourite to win, ahead of Felix Tshisekedi and the government-backed Emmanuel Ramazani Shadary. Fayulu, a former Exxon Mobil manager, was little known when he was picked as the joint candidate of an opposition coalition in November, but extensive campaigning, including in Ebola-hit eastern regions, has since boosted his profile. The latest election poll by a New York-based research group showed Fayulu leapfrogging from third place in October to the top spot with 44 percent support. He was ahead of the former frontrunner, Tshisekedi, on 23 percent, and the ruling party’s Shadary on 18 percent. Fayulu ... is the clear favorite to win elections if they are free and fair. “The polls reveal an electorate eager for change. A large majority supports the opposition,” Congo Research Group (CRG), which commiss...

Journalists Join Sudan protests, Bashir`s Allies demand Investigations.

A network of Sudanese journalists went on strike Thursday in the wake of deadly protests sparked by a hike in bread prices, while opposition groups called for further rallies. “We declare a three day strike from December 27 to protest against the violence unleashed by the government against demonstrators,” said the Sudanese Journalists’ Network which advocates free speech. Journalists in Sudan frequently complain of harassment from the authorities, and the African country has a dire rating on international press freedom rankings. Entire print runs of newspapers are often confiscated over articles deemed offensive by the powerful National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS), which is spearheading the current crackdown on protesters. Activists and opposition groups have called on people to take to the streets again over the next few days. “We urge the Sudanese people to continue their demonstrations until success is achieved by overthrowing the regime,...

SADC and Great Lakes Leaders Concerned About Events in the DRC.

The electoral situation in the DRC was at the heart of a summit of Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the International Conference of the Great Lakes Region held in Brazzaville, Congo. The sub-regional bodies are concerned about the political situation in the country barely a week to an election that has already been postponed for the third time. There was no representative from the Democratic Republic of Congo during Wednesday’s meeting. Brazzaville has every interest in taking this initiative because Brazzaville and Kinshasa are the two closest capitals in the world. You will realize that whatever is happening in DRC has an impact in Brazzaville. I would say Brazzaville is playing it safe. So, as a wise politician, President Sassou Nguesso is playing Congo’s foreign affairs minister, Jean-Claude Gakosso, read out the communique issued at the end of the mini-summit. “The Heads of State called on the political class and civil society to calm down an...
